When we opened our doors in 2019 gray was the color of choice for, well, almost everyone. While there are still plenty of people who want a neutral color for their larger furniture, requests for more vibrant options have grown; and while most manufacturers are adding more color to their lineups, choices are still limited. Enter The Mix. A fully customizable line of living room furniture complete with accent chairs and sleeper options.
Why Customize?
Furniture is a big investment. It's also something that you have to walk through the door and look at every day. So it makes sense that people can be picky when shopping for it. Ordering a custom sofa or sectional allows you to create something that both meets your standards and represents your personal style. And with so many options you can also build a set that perfectly fits the room.
So How Does It Work?
Customizing your sofa is literally as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Choose your frame. Do you want a sofa or sectional? Rolled arms or square? A stationary accent chair or one that swivels? Chances are you already knew the answers to these questions before you walked in. If that’s the case, all you need to do is point to what you need and we can start designing. We keep a binder on hand that includes exact measurements of every piece in every collection so we can make sure you don’t end up with something too big or too small for the area you’re trying to furnish.
Pro Tip #1: Before you start shopping, get a roll of painters tape and tape out the area where you plan on putting each piece. This will give you a realistic idea of what will fit in your room and help you avoid heartbreak on delivery day.

Choose your fabrics. This is where it might get a little more difficult. The amount of fabric swatches can be overwhelming, there may even be colors or patterns you never considered before. If you’re someone who has a hard time visualizing, don't be afraid to ask a team member for help putting some ideas together. That’s what we’re here for! On the flip side of that, if you need a few minutes to go through the rack and create color combinations on your own, we’ll give you the space you need. Just call us when you’re ready. One thing to note - base fabrics can be used for any part of your set, including pillows. Accent fabrics can only be used for pillows, ottomans, and accent chairs. If you're not sure about a certain fabric, just flip the swatch over and there will be a tag in the corner letting you know if it's an accent fabric or not.

Place your order. Before you leave the store we double check every detail with you to ensure that when your furniture comes in, it is exactly what you ordered. Custom furniture can take a while to make and ship so we do everything we can to avoid making you wait even longer for the living room you truly want.
Does It Come In A Sleeper?
We get requests for sleeper sofas multiple times a week. The Mix offers more sleeper options than we’ve ever had before. Four of these collections include queen sleeper sofas and of those, three collections offer full and twin sized sleeper loveseats.
Pro Tip #2: Interior doorways are narrower than exterior doorways. While a bed or daybed may not be your preference for that spare room there is a good chance that a sofa will not fit down the hallway, around the corner, through the door frame, or (heaven forbid) over the loft banister. So before ordering a sleeper for the guest room, measure everything three times.
How Long Does It Take?
We would love to tell you that these products have a super fast turnaround time, but we would much rather be honest. Custom items take longer than something that is being mass produced. In this case, it takes about 8-12 weeks for Southern Motion to process the order, build the product, and ship it to us. This may seem like a long time, but it is pretty average for custom sofa orders and it’s nothing compared to the amount of time and money some people have spent searching for the perfect sofa and dealing with buyers remorse after settling for the wrong one.
